suicide

Monday was a difficult day. The day started with phone calls and smses flooding in. A student had taken his own life. In shock and sorrow we made our way to the college to lend support and be of help to the students and officials alike. After talking to countless students who were his friends, we were no closer to understanding why a 19 year old would take his own life.

Suicide is never approved or sanctioned. Scripture teaches that mankind is a special creation made in the image of God. Thus all human life is sacred, a gift from God to be treated with dignity and respect. Murder is condemned by Scripture, not only as the willful taking of human life, but as a sin against the divine image inborn in God’s highest creation. We must always remember that God is sovereign, appointing both the beginning and the end of our days. The question of eternal destiny should be left in the hands of the Lord. He alone knows the thoughts and intent of the heart as well as the mental condition of the victim at the time of the suicide. For us now, the time is now to reach out to friends who are confused and shocked. Meeting their needs is easier said than done.
Enough talking, let’s get walking …

are you ready for success?

“More people fail in catastrophic proportions not when they are in the valleys of struggle but when they are riding the crest of success. If you stare at your halo long enough it will become your noose. Ravi Zacharias.
We always pray Lord grant me success in all that we do. I believe it is time to pray the prayer “Lord prepare me for the successes that you have in store for me.” It is a hard prayer to say because as we say it we know that the preparation for success will definitely involve a great deal of breaking and molding. One great example of preparation for success in the Lord’s plan is the meekest man who ever lived on earth – Moses. It took 40 years in the wilderness to re-train a prince to be a shepherd and to be a leader among leaders. Do you dare to dream of great successes? The greater the dream, the more the learning and preparation for success. Whether in ministry or in work places or just at home – we can all pray this prayer “Lord Prepare Me!”. Let’s stay focused and keep walking with Jesus!
