Yesterday was a sad sad day. I received a text message during the staff dinner that got me up and bolted out the door armed with my phone! I had heard that one of my intern leaders from Bots who was home on his vacation met with a fatal accident. At that point, there was no confirmations and I prayed rally hard that it was some mistaken identity. However, the news was soon confirmed.
Ronald Sekaname was not just another student. He was more than a name on an attendance register. He was a friend, a co-labourer in the harvest field. He was someone to laugh and joke with as well as someone whom I could share concerns. He was my friend. We have lost a special someone, a leader among peers, someone who was not afraid to stand against society’s norms as he stood for Jesus. A young man who was exemplary in conduct and accountable in the things of God. Was he without failings? Ofcourse not! But he was someone who was always open to correction and had such a teachable attitude. The whole of 2008, I alway s remember telling him, “Ronald, I am so proud at how far you have come.” I could never have imagined the change God effected in his life since the day I first met him. An accident on August 25, 2007 left his two best friends dead (Rooy and Bikkie). He chose to press on and live victoriously for Jesus. It was a tough period as Ronald was also in the car at that time, but escaped without a single injury. God has a greater plan. Whilst I grieve because I will miss this wonderful young man, I have a precious blessed hope that I will meet my Ronald in heaven.
Meanwhile, as I “weep a little weep and cry a little cry” (taken from Little Women), there is much to be done. Countless calls have been and are being made to Botswana to minister, comfort and encourage the friends who are there. At the same time the friends and students that he was helped and impacted are also reeeling from this tragedy. Amindst this, I just come to my Jesus, not understanding everything, just knowing that He is in control. He will sustain. He is out peace midst the storms of life.
January 11, 2009 will be a day I remember along with the other dates of other young students who have since passed. Ronald has finished his race and I believe he gathered momentum towards the end. Let’s pick up speed. With the israeli situation excalating and the entire world situation being the way it is, everything is screaming, “END TIMES!”. Run on! Race on! Focus on Jesus and the prize! Shall we all finish our race with increasing momentum?!
i will always mis and remember ya MR. SEKANAME
Yes, was remembering him as well on the 11 of Jan. But as Ronald ran his race well till the end, lets also carry on our own race of life and run well with the Lord!
